Dear Wyatt,
How exciting it was to take your crib down and move you into your first big boy bed. You look so small in your new twin bed and you adore your Thomas the Train bedding very much, like I knew you would. You are now joining the rest of the family in having your own mattress on the floor as we wait for our house to be completed. The excitement on your face lets me know you don't care because now you have control of getting in and out of your own bed, or so you think:)

I know you understand me when I ask you to look in my eyes and I tell you to stay in bed each night until Mommy comes and gets you. Your small reply of "Yes Mommy" each time assures me that we are speaking the same language. Still as I shut the door I know you will test your limits to really see if I mean what I say. Off you go exploring your room and grabbing each and every toy and placing it in your bed. The fun of it all gets to you and you forget our small simple rule of staying in your bed and I walk in to see you gleefully rocking back and forth on your motorcycle pushing each button and saying "Whee!" at the top of your lungs. As soon as you see the light from the hallway entering your room you fall from you cycle and run with all your might for the bed taking one last jump to hopefully get there before I arrive inside the room. At this point I am sure you understand our rule and for this you get in trouble for disobeying. As I leave the room you cannot see the huge smile on my face, not because you had gotten in trouble, but how cute you looked running with all your might. At the mischievous spirit of my precious two year old.

Your bedtime is at 8:30, I know by the way you rub your eyes that you are tired. I promise, even though your PAS is gone, I will not be taking away your soft blanket and you will not go back to the crib. Fall asleep quickly, my child. I know you were excited that first night, but 11:30 is just to late to stay up. I enjoy my time in the evening and going in your room every 20 minutes or so to get you to stay in your bed became overwhelming. Also, 5:15 AM is not an acceptable time to wake up. You will be cranky during the day and that is not any fun for us all. Now that we are on the fourth day I can see that you are seeing my point and going to sleep quickly and sleeping in, just like you use too. Thank you.

I know you must continue to test your boundaries of the new bed for awhile and I will stay committed in making sure you understand our simple rule, stay in bed until I come in to get you up. I do not enjoy this process, but I do understand it and will stay firm until it finally sinks into your mind. Your brother, Cooper, faced the same road and he was successful and you will be too. I am already beginning to see some progress, keep it up!

I am very proud of your first big boy achievement, now about peeing in that diaper . . .

I love you my sweet Wy,
Mommy
