This was the first year since we have been married that we stayed where we live instead of heading to my parents house. A holiday falling in the middle of the week is nice to break up that week, but hard to plan on going out of town because Brian had to be back at work.
We have some great friends here and were invited out to the Ginns for food & fireworks. Charlotte gave the heads up about how crazy they were about fireworks and that we were in for a big show. It was not a disappointment!
We ate brisket & BBQ chicken

while the kids enjoyed some pool time. I didn't bring a life jacket for either boy because they usually like to hang out on the steps and only get wet enough and stay in long enough to be a bother to change back into their clothes. Cooper watched the other boys swim around in their life jackets and I saw an "Ah hah!" moment flashed in his eyes. We were able to borrow a life jacket and I put it on Cooper and off he went all around that pool! I was very impressed and will now remember to bring his life jacket to future swim parties. Wyatt on the other hand did just as I expected and hung out on the steps.
My sister Amy came along with us and it was great to have an extra set of hands with how many kids were there.
Wyatt LOVED Kyle's truck and was the designated driver most of the night. Here he is with three other boys who are all Cooper's age. They kept asking for turns to drive and Wyatt would just look at them and say "Sorry, it's my turn now." They seemed to be fine with this response and were just happy to be riding along.

The highlight for the children wasn't the big fireworks show, but the smoke bombs bought by Brian before the show began. I called Brian the pied piper because about 15 kids swarmed around him as he lit bomb after bomb with different colored smoke for the kids to run & scream through. It was quite the sight!
11:30 we finally were able to crash into bed.
