For the past two months we have been working with Wyatt on pedaling his bike instead of moving along with his feet. Sounds easy enough to teach, but he just couldn't seem to grasp the feeling of getting those legs and feet to move along and pedal. I would walk along and move his feet for him and that was my daily workout and still nothing.
FINALLY last week he came running into the house. "Mommy, I did it! I can pedal now!" I rushed outside with my camera for him to show me and there was my little boy pedaling away. He was so proud of himself and I was thankful to no longer have to follow him pumping his feet. I took picture after picture as he pedaled himself up and down the drive way.

Learning the brakes was the next step and he was determined to get that down in the same day. We have a circle drive and our house sits on top of a hill. Wyatt would pedal across the top of the driveway and then start down the drive towards the road gaining speed by every turn of the pedal. Along with learning to pedal and brake was his first biking accident. Coasting down the hill didn't cross his mind. He was excited that he had the pedaling motion and continued with his newly learned skill as he was sailing down the hill. My slow working brain realized when Wyatt was halfway down the drive and heading straight for the brick mailbox that I should try to catch him.

There he is pedaling with all his might and me with my big ol' belly running with all my effort to catch up to him before the bike and the mailbox collided. As I am running you see the look of fear on Wyatt's face as he is losing control and has no way of stopping. He tries to lean to the side and steer the bike into the grass with minimal success. He had a huge scrap on his chin and once the band aid was applied he was outside trying again. He is a brave little boy and learned much more quickly on how to use his brake and coast! Yeah Wyatt!!!

I'm so jealous that your boys love to play outside and ride their bikes! I have to beg and plead to get Gunner to get on his bike and ride. He does a great job, he'd just rather sit inside and draw or play with toys. What is up with that??? When we lived there, he ALWAYS wanted to be outside. I just don't get it!!! Glad Wy is OK from his wreck and your belly survived the run! he he Take care! Miss you
