Last week the boys attended Vacation Bible School at a local church right by our house. I had seen the advertisement in the paper and decided at the last minute to send them. I can't explain why I was drawn to this particular VBS, but felt it was important for the boys to go. The first day we arrived not knowing anyone. At Cooper's class we found a little boy that was on his soccer team and he was good to go. He likes to have a buddy with him and feels more secure when he has someone to hang with. Wyatt could care less and he waved goodbye without a second glance as he ran to the sandbox they had in his classroom.
They had a fabulous time. They looked forward to it each morning and were exhausted by time I picked them up around lunch time. Both the boys went to sleep during rest time each day and still went to bed at their usual time. This is usually unheard of for them. Cooper met two other boys his age that he constantly talked about and Wyatt went into detail about the snacks each day. The picture is from the last day when they brought home all their crafts from the week. They were excited about the T-shirts they made and wanted to wear them the rest of the day.

Wednesday night was Family Night. The five of us went to enjoy the free dinner and the wild animal show. It was intimidating walking into a church and not recognizing familiar faces. We stood in line looking around, got our food and then faced the auditorium with tables filled with strangers. We walked to a table that had four seats available and the boys started chowing down. The members of this church were very inviting and talkative! It was encouraging to feel welcomed and wanted.

After dinner we were able to stroll around the building as the boys showed us what they had been up to the past three days. They were excited to show us their rooms, the crafts they had been working on and the big auditorium where they have a drama skit each morning that relates to the Bible story. A couple of mornings after I had dropped off the kids I stayed to see the singing and skits. It was neat to see the boys interact in their environment without me around, yet I could still see them.

Next we headed outside for the big wild animal show. They had many different animals that the kids were able to hold and see up close. The boys were very interested, but still kept their distance. I had to fed Abram towards the end of the show so we were one of the last ones to leave. The presenters stayed around and had the animals out so the boys were able to see them all again without the crowds.
We had such a good time that we plan on going back next year!

You're such a good boy mom. I would have been hightailing it out of there at the first mention of snakes! Kudos to you!
Ick! I hate snakes. You are a good mom to take them to a strange place (even if it was a church) and leave them. I have considered it this summer, but never followed thru. Glad everyone had so much fun!
Sounds like fun. I need to take my girls more places like that to meet new people. I'm glad the boys had so much fun!
